Fletcher Tournament

On Saturday we headed to Fletcher,NC for the last D6 game of the rec season. It was a beautiful location and the weather was great! D6 won all three of the their games and won the tournament championship.

During the first game they were winning 11-0 so they let Noah do his first face off and he actually won! He also played midfield and did not like that at all.

There was a vendor at the tournament that was giving away ghost shafts for the fastest shot for each age group. Zoe jumped right in with the boys and is never intimidated. Her fastest shot was 54 mph.

Noah shot 86 mph and was the fastest of all the age groups. He was very excited to win the shaft.

Lacrosse Banquet

The lacrosse banquet was hosted at Philadelphia Baptist Church this year. The guest speaker was the head coach at Limestone College. His speak was really good and talked about how the older players need to sweep the shed. This was a term taken from All Blacks Rugby team . The seniors or elders of the team set the example and actually clean the locker room after each game when normally you hear freshman doing the grunt work. I hope some of what the coach said sunk in for Noah. Dorman JV had a great year and we are looking forward to next year!

Dorman Lax Freshman Year

I wasn't really worried about Noah being accepted at a new school because he knew tons of people but I was worried about him joining a new lacrosse team. I had nothing to worry about! All those boys just took him in like he was always there. The Dorman JV had an amazing 2016 season going 15-1 and that included 2 tournament championships! Noah learned so much this year from Coach Price and Coach Neuder. Noah scored 24 regular season goals and 21 tournament goals. He set a goal to get 100 by the end of his senior year so we will see how that goes .  Noah was moved up to varsity for the last week of lax. He only got to practice twice and didn't get any play time but he was still happy about it. I never knew I could enjoy a sport so much!

Eastside Tournament

This weekend was full of lacrosse. Dorman played in the Eastside tournament and went undefeated. At the end of the tournament they named 2 players from each position and one goalie for the All Tournament Team. Noah was one of the attack chosen and Ty, another DHSJV player, was chosen for defense. All the guys played great considering how hot is was. Way to go DHSJV!

Turkey Shootout

Noah was able to play a tournament in November with the Upstate Tigers. It was his first game since breaking his leg in April. I was doing a competition in Raleigh, NC so I wasn't able to be there but Corey kept me up to date. Noah even scored! The team was a combination between his old team and his new team. The ended up winning the Gaston Turkey Shootout Championship for their division!

Spring Sports Banquet

Noah had a wonderful JV LAX season. He ended up scoring 9 goals this season and was chosen as team captain. We attended his spring banquet and wasn't expecting him to get anything because our HS only gives out 2 JV awards. We were all pleasantly surprised when his name was called for the Coach's Award. Coach Noe really encouraged the guys this year and will be missed next season. He said that a 8th grader normally isn't the team captain but that Noah showed up every day ready to play and gave 100% without complaining. I was beaming with pride. Noah had a great group of guys this year and together they pulled off a couple of wins. Not bad for a whole JV team of 7th and 8th graders plus two 9th graders. I can't wait for the next season to start! Go Bulldogs!

The Noise We Will Never Forget

April 18th was Noah's first lax game of the rec league. It had poured the day before so the fields were will soaked. Noah absolutely loves lacrosse and I love watching him play. He had just scored a goal and was on a high. The next play he had the ball and went to turn away from the goal. I turned away to talk to a friend and I heard a scream. When I turned back around he was on the ground and the coaches were running onto the field. As Noah had went to turn away his foot planted in the ground and a player from the other team hit Noah. His body moved but his foot did not. I was worried but I stayed still because I have been told by him not to come on the field if he gets hurt. I was going to follow directions until I heard the coach scream, "Call the ambulance!". Even writing that makes me tear up. It was the scariest thing I have ever experienced. I of course took off running to the field at that point. His ankle/leg was broken and he was in extreme pain. My heart broke because I have never seen him hurt so bad. By the time the ambulance came I had calmed down and so had he. Our dear friend Mr.Brad met us at the hospital and made things run much smoother and it made me feel much better to have someone we knew there.

After two ambulance rides, two orthopedic offices, and two hospitals he finally had surgery on April 19th. They reset his ankle and placed 2 screws in there to keep it in place.

Noah couldn't put weight on his leg for 6 weeks then was transitioned over to a boot for an additional two weeks.

He was very excited about getting the boot because that meant he could take it off to go swimming!

We are finally released from the doctor but Noah is still having some issues with walking. He is really nervous about playing lacrosse again but he loves the games and will fight his way back!

I know a broke ankle/leg isn't a huge deal but for us it was. Thankfully none of my kids or myself have ever had a broken bone and I hope it never happens again.

Bulldog Lacrosse

Lacrosse season has started! The Southern Exposure Shoot Out is the first tournament of the year. Noah is #10 this year and is also captain which is a great honor since he is only in 8th grade. He managed to score 5 goals between the 3 games!
